Book Nook: Who's That I Hear?

 Children can’t fall fast asleep when things go “bump” in the night. Is it the wind? The creaking floors? A monster? Or just their imagination? 

In the delightful new children’s book, Who’s That I Hear?, from award-winning author DJ Hill, our young hero is unsettled by unfamiliar sounds in his bedroom. Written primarily for children ages 2-6, Who’s That I Hear? follows one little boy’s journey as he’s reassured by his parents and works up the courage to find the source of the strange noises himself.

 

Who’s That I Hear? comes to life through Hill’s relatable, rhythmic narrative accompanied by endearing watercolor illustrations, and provides opportunities for young listeners and readers to imagine what might be hiding under the bed or in the closet.

 

This inspiring and courageous tale will help empower young audiences by promoting independence and the conquering of one’s fears. The conclusion involving an adorable late-night visitor leaves the young boy comforted and ready for a restful night’s sleep!

 

Author DJ Hill is a former pre-k educator, poet and mixed media artist. She lives and creates in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Who’s That I Hear? is her first children’s book.

 

Homespun Mercies, DJ’s debut collection of poetry, won the NYC Big Book, IBPA Benjamin Franklin and CIPA EVVY Awards in Poetry. It has also received honors from the Nautilus, IPPY, Eric Hoffer and International Book Awards.

 

Her mixed media art has been exhibited at the R2 Gallery, Red Brick Center for the Arts, Las Laguna Gallery and Loveland Museum — where it was awarded the Spirit of the Suffragists prize during VOTE: A Centennial Celebration.
