The U.S. Census Bureau reports that over 93% of families around the country had a child who engaged in some sort of distance learning over the last year. Many students struggled as a result of the formatting change, leading some to fall behind, and others to not grasp topics nearly as well as they should have. One company, The Oxford Method, is helping to bridge the educational gap and get kids (and college students) back up to speed.
Introducing… The Oxford Method!
The Oxford Method is a community of over 100 tutors who help provide 24/7 tutoring services on a wide variety of subjects. The organization is the brain child of David Florence, who wanted to find a way to help the millions of struggling students. He has made it simple for students to get the assistance they need, when they need it.
David lives by the motto that education is the great equalizer. He also believes that it’s the greatest gift that we can give to the next generation. The Oxford Method has teamed up with helpful organizations, donating 10% of all profits, including to Social Actualization Inc. a non profit, which helps provide those in need with computers, high speed internet, and world class instruction. Additionally, he works with a global village to help provide instruction to physically and emotionally challenged students and their families.
I had a chance to interview him to learn more.
What sets the Oxford method apart from other tutoring methods?
The Oxford Method prides itself on the relationship that is fomented between students and instructors. We like to say we're a relationship-based learning community, much more than a tutoring company; we believe that the best way for students to learn is to build a relationship with their instructor/tutor.
How can parents and caregivers help their kids avoid summer brain drain?
Parents and caregivers should make sure to keep their child's brain active during summer vacation to avoid brain drain. Parents and caregivers can do this by organizing a book club for your kids to keep them reading, visiting a zoo, planetarium or science museum, or having their kids join a summer camp. If they're in any kind of summer schooling or program, The Oxford Method can offer extra help where its needed.
What are some of the benefits of summer school and what makes a good summer school program?
Summer school can help especially with students who learn better taking fewer classes. That way, instructors can apply dedicated focus to areas students need help in. Besides reinforcing core classes, summer school can help bridge the summer learning gap and help your child be more ready for school in the fall. A good summer school program makes the transition between summer vacation and school in the fall seamless, imparts new and unique learning skills, and even help a child graduate high school early.
The Oxford Method has over 100 tutors around the country, covering all subject areas. They offer online tutoring, as well as in-person and in-classroom options. Their tutoring services are available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Instructors have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with many of them having a master’s degree, PhD, and at least four years of teaching experience.
