Working at home while homeschooling - top tips to wear both hats!

Busy parents can find homeschooling stressful. This article provides some tips to help you fit your work, home chores, and education into your day!

Intro

Parents are busy people. Managing the house and work is a big challenge at the best of times. Throwing homeschooling into the mix with fussy eaters, too, can make it seem too much.

This article gives some top tips for keeping all the plates in the air while ensuring your kids have a productive day of education.

Draw up your priorities for the day

There are only so many hours in a day. Getting the most important things done should always come first. If you have an important deadline with work, focus on that. Leave your emails and phone alone. Even in survival mode, you can still get some priority tasks done.

Next, figure out the main things your child needs to get done that day. Break work down into sessions. Try to do the subjects they need to concentrate most on in the morning when they are fresh. A math session in the morning is always a good start to the day.

When you have both completed your priorities, you can get back to replying to emails, and your little one can have some fun with art or dance. Plan on homeschool  kids meals as well to ensure a balanced diet that even picky eaters will enjoy!

Build a schedule

Even the best schedules are not designed to be kept to by the second. Having one is important, however. It will keep you, and your child focused on what you are working on. You will both know when the next coffee or snack break is.

Keep a planner to ensure you are on target with work, home, and school activities. This can reduce stress while keeping everyone task-oriented and on the same page.

Also, build in some rest time. This can be some time in front of an educational show on YouTube or some quiet reading time. Parents can use this time to catch up on urgent work or household jobs. Although it might be easier to say than do, try to give yourself a little downtime during the day too.

Take some exercise

Even though it might be the first thing to get bumped down in a busy schedule, get some fresh air and exercise each day. Not only is it healthy, but it is also a great way of rejuvenating yourselves for the afternoon. Kids meals will also benefit from building up an appetite!

In summary

Homeschooling can be a daunting experience at first. But take a step back, boil the kettle and design a realistic schedule. Stick to some daily exercise routines - this is essential for healthy kids. Homeschooling can be a fun experience if planned and executed well.
