With this special children-oriented capsule, the Spring 2021 Collection is marked by a playfulness of form imbued with youthful imagery, while also employing styles that evoke feelings of security and reliability. Organic gestures complement imaginative illustrations; restrained geometrics bring warmth and rhythm.
Area Environments President, Diane Perry, says "I feel like we've all lost a year out of our lives, especially our children. When I look at this collection, I like to think of it as a reward; something we can give ourselves and our kids to make up for that lost year and all the sacrifices we made. Our children were subjected to such abject chaos over the last year, and during such a crucial time in their formation. We hope the Spring 2021 Collection can help renew that sense of wonder, of exploration, of security and play."
The Spring 2021 Collection draws on the work of six female-identifying artists, including Dusa Jesih, Yao Cheng, Suyao Tian, Sandra Dieckmann, Jennifer Bouron, and Anna Walker, each telling their story to shape a more hopeful 2021.
Dusa Jesih was born on 16 January 1977 in Ljubljana. In 1996, she completed the Secondary School for Design and Photography in Ljubljana, specialising in graphic design. She obtained her BA in painting at the College of Visual arts in Ljubljana where she also completed her specialisation in painting three years later. In the period 2006–2007, Jesih attended specialisation courses at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In 2012, she enrolled in the master's programme at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana and received the Preseren Award for students in 2015. She lives in Ljubljana.
"My goal is to bring to the fore the foundations of meanings, emotions or narratives. My paintings feature similar visual signs that form new conceptual units in space, i.e. Gesamtkunstwerk, that open up new perspectives and encourage dialogue. My view of the final part revolves around a (harmonious) attitude towards space, possibly a very clear and brutal concrete area in all the seriousness of 'beauty in silence.'"

I am one of the one-child-only generation of China born in the 80s. Growing up in an intellectual family meant more stringent norms. I hadn’t any siblings, I couldn’t have pets, even making friends was limited by rules, which made me lack communication and confidence. As a child, I often caught all kinds of small bugs, put them in jars. I spoke to them, play with them, they were the only listeners in my childhood. Now I still often talk to these creatures, but Instead of putting them in the jar, I put them into my creations. They become a symbol and language of my own. They appear through all my works, I intentionally using different mediums to reorganize them into a new system, carrier or space to break people's inherent cognition. My creative process is to extract the fragments of memory and separate them, and then reorganize and integrate. This process is my communication with them, and a process of self- release and expression.
