Co-authored by wife and husband team Allie Kingsley Baker and Tony Baker, The Mama Sutra is an essential parenting handbook to more than forty methods to calm fussiness, encourage bowel movements, and (the holy grail) help everyone get back to sleep.
The book uses positions like Lucky Rabbit, the Drunk Monk, the Spraying Mantis, and other time-tested and scientifically proven ways to help your baby feel better. What I liked about the book was that it was practical and realistic. It was interspersed with anecdotes to make the book seem more personal, had illustrations that clearly showed the positions, and incorporated techniques from a variety of sources. The positions fit for many common issues babies experience - reflux, colic, constipation, and more.
I can vouch for many of the positions in the book - I didn't have this when I had babies, but I've used most of the techniques. It also offered improvements on things that most people seem to know how to do (like burping a baby) but certain people seem to do it better than others. It's a great book for new parents and caregivers, baby-sitters working with kids for the first time, or for grandparents brushing up on taking care of little ones.
