Money Makers: Resumes and Vaccination Status

ResumeBuilder.com recently released a survey finding that 1/3 of hiring managers automatically disregard resumes that do not contain vaccination status.

Key Findings:

  • 69% of hiring managers are more likely to hire someone who has already been vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Since August 2021, 63% of companies are mandating COVID-19 vaccines for employees
  • 32% of hiring managers will give priority to applicants who indicate that they are vaccinated on their resume

One expert voiced her opinion on the issues this can cause:

“Unless there is a clearly stated policy on vaccination status, asking upfront for this information may be overstepping boundaries. Additionally, employers could be losing out on qualified candidates if they use that as a screener, as it is not common practice to include this information on resumes.” -Carolyn Kleinman, Career Expert and Expert at ResumeBuilder.com.

When I asked some follow-up questions, she had this to add.

Does vaccination information belong on a resume?

How can potential applicants find companies with policies that mesh with their vaccination status?
How can applicants be aware of other Covd-related policies at a potential employer?

"Many companies are going public with statements about vaccination, so job seekers can start there, do some quick research, and check the company website. Also seeing employers putting information about vaccination status and work location in job descriptions. Therefore if you apply for a job at company X and the description says new employees starting Nov 1 or later are expected to be fully vaccinated by start date and work in person at our offices located in XYZ, you might consider putting your status on a resume as a way to not get screened out. Companies seem to be doing a good job at sharing COVID-related information but if it is not clear and you are unable to find through research but still have interest in the company, go ahead and apply and be ready to ask those questions if you are selected to interview."
