ALVA recently launched. It’s a lightweight, micro-LED torchlight that straps onto the ankle or wrist while running, cycling, hiking or doing projects around the house. It’s designed to shine exactly where you need it. The idea for ALVA came from a movie theater job. If you’ve ever lost your phone or wallet in the seats, you know just how hard it can be to find with the low lighting. In developing ALVA, they realized how the torchlights could be useful for so many different activities: hiking, running, cycling, DIY projects.
You can learn more in this interview with Josh Smith, Creator of ALVA.
Why was ALVA created?
While working in a cinema in 2017, I constantly had the need for a flashlight and really liked the idea of having a compact wearable version. I couldn't find one, so I came up with the original idea of ALVA. Fast forward to 2019 when development work had started, ALVA had grown to be more of a complete system for any outdoor pursuit or indoor task. I feel ALVA adds a level of practicality and comfort that other personal light sources are missing.
Why is it so important for active people to have a light source at night?
Beyond the usual reasons to illuminate what you’re doing and see ahead of you, there is a real need to be visible to other people too. The mantra of ALVA has always been ’to see and be seen’ - this gives you the best of both worlds from a practicality and safety perspective.
What sets ALVA apart from other lights?
