Book Nook: No Such Thing as Normal

The founder of No Such Thing Co., Megan DeJarnett, wrote No Such Thing As Normal in an effort to teach global audiences a greater awareness of differences in disabilities. Its origins came about when her own children had questions regarding differences in her abilities; her heart in writing this story came from experiences with her son, who also has a disability. And, she noticed a lack of children’s books in the arena of inclusivity and diversity. Megan looked to fill the gap, and encourage children that our differences make us beautiful and unique. Her hope is to show kids who live WITH a disability that they can do ANYTHING. Her children’s book for kids No Such Thing As Normal was the perfect vehicle to get this point across to her children, and the world.

No Such Thing As Normal speaks to the curiosities and difficult questions that arise in a world full of diversity. Equipped with discussion questions, this story provides a creative, honest, and interactive way to instill dignity and respect for all people.

"There is a misconception that this book is solely for special needs children. This book, however, was written with all people in mind. The hope of No Such Thing As Normal is to emphasize that everyone plays an important part in our world, while also creating a tool that can be used to educate the younger generation, speaking also specifically to those who do not have a diagnosis or disability,” says author Megan DeJarnett.
