I recently had the chance to review Star Passage, Book 4 - Cyber Plague. I enjoyed the first three, so I was excited to see this book, which takes the series in a new direction.
This book was definitely different from the first three - and worked well as a stand-alone book, with the connections to the first three not being crucial to the plot. The all-important Stars are now in the hands of new travelers, and the Trackers are still running for them, but now instead of bouncing around historic events, the journey takes them to the future.
Like many books, this had an element of a dystopian future - and it was a very intriguing human-computer virus. While that may or may not be realistic, it does speak to the need for a little bit of caution as we're exploring new technologies. The book's fast pace works well to keep readers interested, and it does a good job of showing the need to work together, sometimes in very creative ways. There are two brief points in the book where the author gets political, and it rubbed me a little the wrong way because it wasn't necessary to the plot (not because it was an extremely left or right view), but otherwise the book was an enjoyable read.
