Consumer Critique: KÖE Kombucha

If you're looking for healthier options for back-to-school, you might want to consider kombucha in place of pop or juice drinks. I recently had a chance to try out several flavors of KÖE Kombucha, a probiotic-packed drink.

The first thing I loved - it's organic. I also like that it was created for people who don't already drink kombucha. Kombucha is normally a fermented tea drink, and I've always been a little concerned I wouldn't like the taste. However, this was formulated to avoid a vinegary taste and to be a delicious sparkling beverage. It's low-calorie too - 35 calories in a can and just 9 grams of sugar, way less than pop and sports drinks.

Some of the flavors went over better than others. No one in the house loved the mango, although my husband drank it and was ok with it. The strawberry lemonade, however, was a universal thumbs up, and I like raspberry dragon fruit.

It's also unique in that it's shelf-stable, so it's easy to bring places. I think it tastes better cold, but it doesn't require refrigeration, which can make it more convenient. KÖE is vegan, Kosher certified, and gluten-free, so it will fit a variety of lifestyles.

You can find KÖE at a variety of stores, or buy online.
