At the end of the day, we all want to make a name for ourselves. But during this process we need to be aware that while making that name, we don’t lose the person who is attached to that name. For those of us choosing the path of entrepreneurship, it’s a fine line to be walked between losing yourself and succeeding.
Nora Tobin, performance enhancement and executive coach, nutrition specialist and CEO of Nora’s Naturals Coffee, lists her top tips for entrepreneurs looking to be successful in what they do.
Tip #1: Innovate, Test, Reset
There are few startups to global brands without having gone through (and continuing to implement) the innovate, test and reset approach. We don’t come out of the gates with a product or service that is perfect. In fact, it usually starts very far from where it will evolve to. By giving ourselves permission to just simply start and use as much creative force as possible, we provide a launch pad for the process. It is within the process where we can create the opportunity (even if it wasn’t the original concept).
Tip #2: Turn Networking Into a Personal Opportunity
I have always found the best way to experience joy within a stressful process of building a company is by forming a network of friends. This sounds incredibly simple, but it is in these relationships where we get to explore new ideas, create unique opportunities and at the end of the day- have some fun. Approaching our professional network with the idea that we are actually building great friendships- we start to create a support system that lends itself to professional success.
Tip #3: Take Time to Take Time
There is no stopping point for entrepreneurs- no to-do list that will be absolutely complete. It can feel like we are constantly on, working from the moment we rise into the night. There are some days when that is necessary, but not all. The importance of creating moments of clarity can be the downtime that shifts the business. The walks in the sunshine without the phone or simply listening to binaural beats with eyes closed can create brain entrapment- stimulating analytical and creative thought.
Tip #4: Incorporate Work Intervals
With a daily schedule that can include a myriad of tasks unrelated to one another, it can be very helpful to incorporate techniques that keep focus and accomplish the most important items first. The Pomodoro theory provides a framework of 25 minute working intervals. Set the alarm for 25 minutes and work on just one task. As soon as you drift away for a moment to send an email or check social media, reset the clock. It can be eye opening and focusing to use this interval method to get everything done in an efficient manner.
Tip #5: Implement the 8-Hour Eating Window
The 8-hour eating window can be one of the most efficient nutritional strategies for entrepreneurs. By shortening the time in which you eat to an 8-hour period, the body and brain receive optional repair. In the 16 hours of not eating (coffee allowed!), the body goes into rapid cellular cleanup mode- clearing toxins, burning fat at a fast pace, and delivering clean energy to the brain for optimal focus.
