Triple Rainbow's new sing-along anthem celebrates the power of imagination. Through the 15 songs on their debut album You Are Magic, Triple Rainbow explores both the silly and sensitive sides of childhood through lighthearted, upbeat and layered songs offering pure fun and affirmation.
Named after the inspired quote by Paul Vasquez, Triple Rainbow is a family band with a unique musical heritage and history. Jared Mees, along with his wife Brianne, is the co-founder of Tender Loving Empire, the beloved Portland, Oregon-based record label and handmade retail store chain.
Besides operating six stores in Portland that sell the work of more than 800 artists, TLE has released hundreds of records over the last 15 years including five with Jared Mees & The Grown Children.
But their story goes even further back. Mees relates: “My brother played drums for our punk band in high school, Brianne and I were in a band in college called Julai (which we named after the kid we thought we might one day have) and Brianne’s dad Bill, an old-time rocker with Motley Crue ties who played drums with me for years and recorded a couple of my records. The family band has always been a dream.”
Jared and his two young daughters July (9) and Piper (4) have been creatively busy during the pandemic months, co-writing songs, creating props and generally getting ready for the launch of their band Triple Rainbow on TLE’s sister label Brave New People, which focuses on family music and unique children’s clothing. It's just a lot of fun to play music with my family.”
Triple Rainbow keeps one foot planted in acoustic folk and the other in driving pop-rock. “We wanted to make a record that kids would love and that their parents would not only tolerate, but look forward to putting on,” says Jared. I grew up listening to Harry Nilsson’s ‘The Point’ and have sung all those songs to July and Piper at bedtime for years. I really wanted to make an album like that — something the whole family could agree on that was fun and catchy but also looked a bit deeper into issues that modern kids face.”
The album You Are Magic will be available in digital and physical editions on January 21, 2022. It is distributed by Portland-based Burnside Distribution, a company which also distributes albums by some of the top names in kindie music (Caspar Babypants, Brady Rymer, The Not-Its!, Red Yarn, Recess Monkey, Danny Weinkauf of They Might Be Giants fame, etc.).
