As parents, you know that getting your kids involved in sports is a good way for them to make friends, have fun, and learn important skills like practice and teamwork. However, the average yearly cost to play a sport is $692 per child—one sport that is more costly than most, is ice hockey, with a yearly cost of $2,582.74.
R. Renee Hess, who is passionate about making hockey a more inclusive space for people of color, founded Black Girl Hockey Club (BGHC), which gives out scholarships every year to young Black girls across the world.
You can check out BGHC’s scholarship donation page as a way for families to support Black girls in hockey this giving season. BGHC also sells merch such as t-shirts, mugs, and home decor that would make perfect gifts, all while supporting an amazing cause!
