Book Nook: January 2022 Art Books from The Quarto Group

 

I recently had a chance to see two new books from The Quarto Group. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed the chance to learn more about different art styles!

Draw Manga Style is an engaging way to learn about drawing in this style. The step-by-step instructions are appropriate for beginners or intermediate artists, and the book does a lot of work with traditional character posing and features that are so important for the manga style. It includes a lot of genres and themes - and I even learned about different manga styles while I was looking through the book (there are a lot more stylistic differences that I realized).

Get Messy Art was a blast for both of my daughters and myself. It was permission to have art not necessarily be perfect. For my older daughter who likes things a little more typical, it was a chance to get out of her creative box. For my younger daughter and I, it was a chance to celebrate our unpolished creativity and channel it into some new ideas. It's great for any artist to get them thinking in a new direction!
