Parenting Pointers: Daily Self Care Tips For a Busy Mom

As I’m sure you already know, being a mother is a full-time job that takes up most of your attention. This can make it difficult to find time in the day for some self-care. But taking time out of your busy schedule to tend to yourself is important for a number of reasons. Firstly, you have to be in a good state of mind to be able to take care of your other responsibilities. You won’t be able to give your children, work, or chores the proper attention they need if you don’t take good care of yourself. Additionally, self-care can help you feel rejuvenated after an exhausting day. Follow these tips to take better care of yourself every day.

Focus on Your Physical Health

Self-care doesn’t only concern your mental wellbeing. In fact, a healthy body can be the start of a healthy mind. You should take some time every day to do something active. The activity you choose doesn’t necessarily have to be a workout, but it should engage your body. For instance, you could take a walk around the block and give yourself a moment to enjoy the outdoors. If that doesn’t sound like something that you’re interested in, then try stretching or setting aside some time for yoga. Make sure you enjoy whatever activity you decide upon. Remember, this moment is about self-care, so don’t stress yourself out with an intense workout if that isn’t for you.

Eating healthy is another simple way to improve your physical health. Having a busy day is no excuse to skip meals. Starving yourself will only do you a disservice and make you feel more tired and moody. Take some time every evening to think about when the best times to eat would be and what you should eat during those windows of opportunity. Make time for a quick meal or a snack even if your day is completely packed with errands and responsibilities.

You should also take the impact of the products included in your daily routine into consideration. Many people have a daily skincare routine, but they are unaware of how abrasive these products might be. Most experts recommend that skincare products range from a pH level of about 5.5 to 6.5, which is just barely more acidic than pure water at 7. You can use ph indicators to test the acidity of your skincare products and determine if they are too harsh for your skin.

Give Your Brain a Boost

Remember that your brain is a muscle and that you should treat it like one. Set aside a little time every day to do something that makes you think. This could be something mentally challenging or something creative. For example, if crosswords or Sudoku aren’t your cup of tea, then set aside some time every morning to keep a journal. Meditation is another example of a simple way to give your mind a break from the hustle and bustle of your busy days.

Early mornings will likely be the best time to stimulate your brain. Getting up early and stimulating your brain will give you an opportunity to start every day with the proper mindset. Mornings are better for boosting your brain because you’ll likely be tired in the evening and you should focus on winding down for a good night’s sleep.

Remember to get plenty of sleep every night. Sleep is a crucial part of your mental health that many people neglect. If you don’t allow yourself to get the proper amount of rest every night, then it is unlikely you’ll feel rested enough to tackle the challenges of the day.

Pamper Yourself

Everybody deserves to be treated like a queen once in a while. While you might not have the opportunity to take a trip to the spa every day, it is important to set aside at least a little time every day to relax. Micro self-care techniques are a creative way of ensuring you are rewarded even on your busiest days. For example, you could try one-sentence journaling whenever you find a spare few minutes. This benefits you by providing you with an opportunity to reflect upon your day and think about yourself without taking much time away from your responsibilities. Some other micro self-care techniques include listening to your favorite music or podcast while commuting, making your favorite food on the weekend, or taking deep breaths for a couple of minutes.
