Enriching Education: National Panda Day

Pandas… They’re cute, they’re fluffy, and people around the world love them. So much so there is a whole day dedicated just to these bamboo-loving creatures - National Panda Day on March 16th! To celebrate, Brainly, the world’s largest online learning platform and homework help community, is sharing fun facts about pandas:

>> Panda Fact 1
A panda’s diet consists primarily of bamboo, and they will spend between 14-16 hours a day eating it. Occasionally, they will hunt pika and other small rodents.

>> Panda Fact 2
Pandas have six fingers, which includes an opposable “thumb.” This helps them grasp bamboo stems. Pandas are the only bears with thumbs.

>> Panda Fact 3
While full grown pandas weigh between 200-300 pounds, they only weigh between 4-6 ounces at birth (approximately the size of a stick of butter!).

>> Panda Fact 4
There are two subspecies of pandas: the Giant Panda (black and white) and the Qinling Panda (brown).

>> Panda Fact 5
All giant pandas in the world are Chinese citizens. China rents giant pandas to American Zoos for $1 million per year.
