April is Stress Awareness Month and a study referenced by Positive Psychology found pregnant women and new mothers, who are at risk of developing depressive disorders, benefitted when they practiced meditation and yoga training
Mental health expert Prairie Conlon, LPC, NCC, Clinical Director of CertaPet.com, shares more benefits of meditating and other popular types of meditation to reduce stress.
“Meditation and mindfulness practices can be a very beneficial addition to your overall wellness goals. Numerous studies tout the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, from reduced daily stress all the way to rewiring your brain to combat depressive symptoms. However, many people believe that meditation is just meditation, but there are many different forms of meditation that vary in length, focus, and general format. For example, guided versus unguided, calming versus insight, the list goes on. Make sure to do your research and find the meditation practice that is right for you.“
Veterinarians.org, also suggests DOGA (Dog+Yoga) that can help both you and your dog stay healthy, give your dog mental stimulation, let you and your dog socialize, help you both relax, encourage owners to check on their dog's health, and help you bond with your dog.
