Movie Minute: Mice War

As part of major effort to teach young children about the absurdity of war and the futility of violence, "The Mice War, " a heartfelt animated feature film created by Grammy-nominated composer and lyricist David Chesky, is now available for viewing on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mice-War-Gregory-Jbara/dp/B07BXY2SL2. Running Time 1:18.

Chesky said, "The message couldn’t be more important, and I sincerely hope that everyone will see it, and that parents and teachers will talk to their kids about it. If they learn at an early age about the foolishness and cruelty of war, maybe they won’t make the same mistakes that we did.”

Megan Mitchell, a second-grade educator, was one of a few teachers who previewed the movie with her students in the classroom. "My students are chomping at the bit to see the movie again. I can't stop talking to other teachers about the impact I have seen it have on my students and my children."

Chesky added, "War is no longer a distant story that children only hear about or see on TV and video games. War is extending into their homes and schools through the massive gun violence we have recently seen, and it cannot be measured how far this will go. It is imperative to target young minds and teach them from a young age that war does not have a purpose because there are so many better alternatives."

The Mice War shows in the most childlike, comedic, and entertaining manner, a manner that children will understand with their own child's hearts is that war is absurd.  War is stupid. Human life is the most important core value.  And, of course, all this and more is demonstrated in a delightful and wondrous way.

Featuring a stellar cast, including Gregory Jbara (Blue Bloods on CBS; Tony Award winner for Billy Elliot), The Mice War conveys a powerful message that war is never the answer and that we need to learn to resolve conflicts peacefully.

"With the polarized political climate we live in today, the lesson taught by Albert, that war is not the answer and that we can all connect on some level," Chesky said. "It is an important topic for families to discuss with their children. Additionally, this film is a great tool for educators to teach about diversity in the classroom.

Based on Chesky’s 2007 children’s opera of the same name, The Mice War tells the story of Albert, a young mouse who finds himself caught in the middle of a war between the Blue Mice of the North and the Red Mice of the South. Ultimately, the mice learn that if they are to have any hope of surviving as a species, they must learn to accept one another’s differences.

In addition to Jbara, who plays the warmonger General Khan, the exceptional roster of talent includes Tony Award nominee Alison Fraser as Lucy the loveable sea monster.  Rock of Ages star Mitchell Jarvis plays the narrator. Norman Chesky is executive producer.

The Mice War premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival, the Madrid International Film Festival, and the USA Film Festival's KidFilm Fest.
