Written initially on the bequest of his grandson, Alan Davies’ deliciously entertaining trio of books captivate with the tales of friends who happen to be a rat, a rabbit and a hedgehog, and their epic adventures in a forest somewhere in England.
Embarking on a writing career after suffering a bizarre accident (after which the author found that stories kept coming into his head and he wrote almost non-stop for two years), Alan Davies’ children’s stories exude the author’s passion for his new-found craft and his desire to help children to further develop their reading.
Whimsical and engaging, this prolific author has already penned a staggering thirty-five Kirkshaw Stories, and if that wasn’t enough, he is responsible for his own front cover artworks and illustrations throughout (which are then reworked for production quality by design and animation company, White Magic Studios). With the first three published instalments whetting the appetite of its readers, there will be many youngsters relishing the prospect of immersing themselves in so many future forest escapades.

About the author:
Alan Davies says: “I started writing at 65 years old. I had an accident while out fishing. I accidentally touched my head on an electrified cattle wire fence. The shock knocked me to the ground and made me very dazed. Shortly after I started to get headaches, these lasted for months until one day the retina in my left eye split open.
“After the accident something strange started to happen. I got strong urges to want to write, stories were coming into my head. I wrote and wrote no- stop for two years. Out came two Sci-fi novels and one short story about a pirate curse. This book (Captain Wirgoil’s Challenge)has now been published.
“It’s a miracle that I have achieved this. I’ve had no training, a very poor education. I really shouldn’t be capable of doing these things. But I have, it can only be put down as the result of the accident.”
