MasterPieces inspires young generations of explorers to play, create and discover the fun of outer space with its newest licensed product line for NASA branded puzzles, games and DIY wood build-and-paint sets. Now available is a collection of NASA puzzles, games and craft kits that is certified by NASA for accuracy and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) value.
In addition to the NASA licensed line, MasterPieces is releasing nearly 600 new products this year. The extensive product offerings are attributed to the unprecedented jigsaw puzzle demand and at-home entertainment options, as well as the obsessive enthusiasm among sports fans.
I had a chance to learn more in this interview with David Rolls, President and Founder of MasterPieces, Inc.
What sets MasterPieces puzzles apart from other puzzles?
MasterPieces works hard to find the best of the best in every part of its puzzle. From custom random-cut dies that take every interlock into consideration, to best-in-class puzzle board quality and sturdy long-lasting packaging. But beyond that, we search for the best puzzle artists, both traditional and trendy, across the world. Doing a puzzle is an activity, not just looking at a pretty picture, and the composition, color and quality of the images can make or break a great puzzling experience. The image has to be a great PUZZLE image, not just a pretty picture.
What makes puzzles such a great family activity?
Puzzling as a hobby or activity can be enjoyed a lot of different ways. As a group, families can spend time chatting together and team up to help each other solve sections or colors of the puzzle. This gets families working as a team, with a sense of accomplishment and cooperation when the image slowly comes together. When a group is working a puzzle together, people can puzzle at their own pace but everyone involved still gets to feel that moment of excitement when the last piece goes in.
How can families find suitable puzzles at just the right difficulty level?
Piece count is a great place to start. MasterPieces has over 100 puzzle images in the 300pc EZGrip category. This is a 300pc puzzle that is cut from the size of a traditional 750pc puzzle. The pieces are about 80% larger than a normal puzzle piece and that makes it great for new puzzlers to tackle an easier challenge, while more experienced puzzlers can still get the artistic sophisticated puzzle images they love. It you really want to experiment, try the Family Hour 450pc puzzle line. That has a custom die that has goes from larger pieces to smaller pieces across the puzzle. Enjoy it with a group that has different puzzling skills, or use it as a tool to experiment with how many pieces and what kind of piece sizes are right for you and your family. Also, MasterPieces’ Right Fit labeled Puzzles (for ages 3-8) are designed to ensure that each puzzle is well-suited to the age and skill level of the child. The “right fit” refers to the piece size and piece count. Each Right Fit Puzzle completes to the same finished size (14″ x 19″) but the size and the number of pieces changes according to age and/or skill level.
