Healthy Habits: Lucis Light Patch

Bruises are painful and can take weeks to disappear. But what if you readers could heal faster at home with a simple device? Meet Lucis Light Patch.

Lucis Light Patch is a screen printed light source that targets bruises from day one. The yellow and blue light patches use phototherapy to mimic sunlight, helping the skin and tissue heal quicker. The yellow patch speeds up blood and lymph circulation during the first few days of bruising, while the blue patch accelerates bilirubin distribution.

Light therapy is used to treat bruises, scars, health conditions and acne. The Cleveland Clinic found blue light affects the uppermost layer of skin, while yellow light can penetrate deeper.

Lucis Light Patch offers an affordable and convenient alternative to doctors’ office visits that can be used at home and on the go. Simply attach the yellow or blue light patch to skin at night and turn on the electric inverter to begin healing.

I had a chance to learn more in this interview.

How does light help improve healing?

Bruises are healed naturally during the day when they are exposed to the sun. Visible light spectrum contains all different wavelengths and colors. Each particular color has a different impact or influence on metabolic processes happening in our skin. Lucis Light Patch is used during the night to give twice as much light, cutting the healing time in half. The yellow Lucis Light Patch helps stimulate blood circulation and augment the lymphatic circulation process…similar to gently massaging around the outer edge of the bruise. The blue light patch is used for the last night of treatment when the bruise is a yellow color. Blue light is commonly used for newborn babies with neonatal jaundice because it dissolves bilirubin from the blood. In general, the Lucis Light Patch can speed up healing by up to three times. Every person is different, so the healing time depends on their age and the size of the bruise.

Why is the link between light and healing not as well known?

Light, respectively phototherapeutic treatment methods related to skin problems, have been used in medicine since Roman times. Phototherapy in the dermatology and beauty industry has become very common in the last few decades. There are a number of laser treatments or lamp devices on the market but wasn't a device that could be used for longer time periods with the possibility of being used directly on the skin without unwanted side effects. Most other light sources emit too much heat to be placed directly on the skin for the entire night without risk of overheating or inflammation. Their effect is not constant or permanently sufficient.

What does expertise screen printing have to do with creating medical devices?

The main advantage of this expertise is that it’s a form of printed light where we use very small particles of polymers to be printed in very precise and thin layers. The final printed sandwich is encapsulated in a way that practically doesn't emit any unwanted heat. In combination with a transparent medical-grade silicone cover, it allows the product to be used directly on human skin with deeper penetration and constant homogenous phototherapeutic effect on the affected area. This allows it to be used for a longer time, such as overnight.

Who will benefit most from this type of product?

Lucis Light Patch targets people who chronically bruise, such as diabetics who take insulin or people with iron deficiency anemia, as well as athletes and active people. Bruises are also common in those who take medicine to thin their blood and elderly people whose skin has become thinner with age.

We believe Lucis Light Patch will also be beneficial for dermatologists, aestheticians, plastic surgeons and other professionals in the beauty industry. They deal with patients who have unwanted post-op bruises. These professionals could benefit from a symbiotic relationship of Lucis Light Patch and most of their current treatment methods.
