Parenting Pointers: Baby Feeding Guide For a Formula Fed Babies

In theory, feeding a baby formula is just a few simple steps. However, if you have never cooked a bottle of formula or if a child wakes up late at night, the task becomes more complicated. To properly prepare formula for a kid, it is necessary to follow the instructions on the package. For each feeding, make the new portion, and in no case should you use the remnants in the bottle again. Note that only boiled water should be used to prepare the formula. Let's dive deeper into the process of feeding a kid formula.

Prepare a Bottle for Formula

Any baby product, especially a feeding bottle, must have a hygienic certificate confirming its safety. The most important thing is that bisphenol A should not be present in the plastic from which the bottle is made.

So once you boil the water, you need to leave it for cooling. If you start to dilute the powder in hot water, it may dissolve unevenly, which will complicate sucking. Follow the proportions indicated on the package. Don't add an extra spoon because too thick consistency can cause dehydration and thirst. To determine the correct consistency of the prepared baby food, turn the bottle with the pacifier down. A perfectly cooked formula should drip at a rate of about 1 drop per second. Do not forget to wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before touching the bottles and feeding a kid. Also, check the cleanliness of the table and measuring spoon.

What Water to Use for Feeding Process

As was mentioned before, it's allowed to use only boiled water for preparing baby food because this is an effective way to make sure that the water is safe for a child. The water in the package may look the same but some manufacturers divide it into two categories - for drinking and for preparing formula.

Drinking water contains a higher concentration of minerals that are good for the child's body, but they disturb the balance of the nutrient formula. Therefore, the labels contain information about the different purposes of water whether it is suitable for cooking baby food or for drinking.

How Often to Feed a Day?

The number of bottles with formula per day depends on how much food a child consumes, and how often a kid eats. It is best to keep six to ten bottles on hand. So you will always have clean dishes. In addition, the more bottles, the less often they will have to sterilize them. Buy 125 ml bottles and gradually switch to 150 ml and 240 ml when the child's appetite and needs increase. Smaller bottles are great for feeding and water, so do not rush to part with them.

What Pacifier to Choose

Many bottles with a wide and narrow neck already include a set of pacifiers. Almost all of them are made of silicone. What shape of the pacifier, what size hole will like your little one you can understand by its reaction during feeding. If the formula drips from the corners of the mouth, the size of the hole is too large, so the flow of fluid is too fast. If a kid sucks thoroughly, the liquid comes too slowly. In such cases, it's not recommended to enlarge the opening of the pacifier because it can rupture, and its microparticles get into the child's organism. If necessary, pacifiers can be changed by buying them separately from the bottles.

Remember, the infant formula must be used immediately. It is not a good idea to prepare it ahead of time. Read more about storing baby formula on the website - organicsbestshop.com
