Book Nook: Extraordinary Women with Cameras

My husband is a photographer, and my daughter is getting more interested in photography, so we were looking forward to reviewing Extraordinary Women with Cameras: 35 Photographers Who Changed How We See the World by Darcy Reed and illustrated by Vanessa Perez. Geared for kids 8-12, the book gives a short biography of iconic female photographers over the past 200 years.

I liked the variety of women in this book. Some names were familiar and recent (like Anne Geddes), others were less familiar or more historic, so it gave me a chance to learn about different iconic photographers as well. Interspersed throughout the book are some other enrichment tidbits - photography terms, ideas for photo projects, and suggestions for other female photographers to learn about. n

The book is a great gift for girls (or boys) getting into photography and can inspire further research into some of these amazing women.
