Earlier this year, I got to see Totally Random Questions, books for tweens that are full of questions and answers. I loved the books - they were interesting and engaging even to me as an adult.
I recently got to see Totally Random Facts, which is in a similar vein, but just facts, not questions.
What I like about these books is that they aren't really totally random. They're random int he sense that they aren't typical questions, and some of the topics aren't things often covered in traditional science classes, for example. But they are organized within the book in ways that make sense - it's not like it jumps from Egypt to bugs, for example.
The books are engaging, full of vivid, colorful pictures that will help engage reluctant readers. The facts are presented in short little snippets, so it's easy to read just a little at a time - but because it's real knowledge that even some adults don't know, the books don't sound condescending. They're great ways for kids to learn more about the world around them!
