With one of the greatest teacher shortages, and concerns of classroom sizes and access to homework/classwork help on the rise, we considered: have students been utilizing their Summer break to prepare for the upcoming school year?
Leading homework help platform, Brainly, conducted a data survey to confirm just how high-school students have spent their time over these past few months. The results showed:
>> 43.6% of respondents participated in a school-related activity (summer camp, SAT prep, etc.)
>> ONLY 15.8% took their SAT test, while 20.9% of students took an SAT prep class
>> 23.4% of students toured a college/university
>> 31.9% of respondents were required to complete school projects
>> 9.3% of those students spent 1-2 hours on school projects
>> 41.4% of those students spent 3-4 hours
>> 35.2% of those students spent 5+ hours
>> 38.1% of students worked a job or internship
>> 57.6% of respondents feel “ready to go back to school”, leaving 42.4% wishing for a little more time
What Exactly Did Students Do in Their Free Time?
>> 38.6% read a book
>> 35.7% attended Summer school
>> 27.6% played a sport
>> 19% practiced a second language
>> 14.3% finished a school project
>> 13.6% practiced an instrument
Digital platforms and apps such as Brainly can give additional support to students who feel they no longer have the same access or 1-on-1 time with their teachers in the upcoming year. Brainly offers students direct access to peers through educational forums, online tutors and curriculum-approved textbooks. Students can work directly on school provided assignments as well as source questions, prompts, and answers to passion-based topics such as “Describe The Universe During the Big Bang”.
