Students aren’t the only ones who experience pressure to ‘glow up’ when it comes to clothes, gadgets and designer dorm rooms for the new school year.
A recent survey revealed that 36% of parents felt pressured to overspend on back-to-school shopping and social media is a big source of that pressure. Parents of college freshman are particularly vulnerable because of big ticket items on their must-buy lists; like laptops, smartphones, couches and desks.
And they won’t let inflation stand in their way. The National Retail Federation reports that total back-to-school spending is expected to match last year’s record high of $37 billion but finds that more than a third of consumers (38%) are cutting back in other areas just to cover the rising cost of items.
The good news is parents don’t have to bust the budget to help their college kids create swoon-worthy dorm rooms. They just need a little design inspiration. And, who better to provide it than the mother-daughter team who started Dormify?
In this video, Amanda and Karen Zuckerman show you creative, but affordable ways to decorate a dorm room that will dazzle on social media.
