Corie Adjmi, award winning author of “Life and Other Shortcomings,” knows how important it is for women to love themselves and how practicing daily acts of self-love can be beneficial for their perception not only of themselves but of the world around them.
In “Life and Other Shortcomings,” your women characters deal with a lot, either body image issues, non-supportive partners, work issues, etc. Why is it important for women to practice self-love?
“In society, sometimes women get the message, we are not enough. Too often women give up on themselves, and their dreams, in order to please or take care of others. This can lead to burn out, depression, anger. Writing about some of my less than supportive experiences has helped me to heal from some of the injustices. It is important that we find ways to take care of ourselves, to be seen, heard, felt. And while I’m a fan of writing, there are so many ways that women can contribute to their own growth. Maintaining a healthy mindset is essential. If you do not have a support system, you can find encouragement in a number of places. I love podcasts. Finding meaningful conversations, makes you feel like you are part of a community, a collective of like-minded voices. And while Instagram can be detrimental, and sometimes causes anxiety, if you follow the right people, you can get information and care from professional therapists, coaches and everyday people. There I’ve learned so much, and that support has helped me to find serenity, gratitude, acceptance and overall more emotional wellness,” explains Corie Adjmi.
Additionally, here are some other ways Corie Adjmi suggests women to do to practice self-love:
- Prepare a healthy meal
- Take a walk in nature
- Take time to stretch
- Read a book
