Mega TV producer and child advocate Kenn Viselman and the team behind environmental warriors MeteoHeroes can now add to their list of accomplishments … a forest to call their own: they’re responsible for planting 5,000 trees in a section of 45,000 trees that were planted by the U.S. Forest Service in the Angeles National Forest near Lake Hughes north of Los Angeles in order to support wildfire recovery in California and help fight Climate Change and have been given the distinctive honor of having that section of the park be named “MeteoHeroes Forest.”
The Angeles National Forest is located within an hour and a half’s drive for more than 20 million people who live in the Greater Los Angeles area, and provides a wealth of recreation opportunities. The planting project will re-establish mixed conifers lost to the 2020 Lake Fire. Some of the planting sites run along the famed Pacific Crest Trail and others are adjacent to California spotted owl habitat. The 5,000 trees were planted in the name of MeteoHeroes to support this reforestation initiative in California.
Viselman has created, produced and marketed some of the most beloved children’s and family series of all time, including such popular family entertainment as Teletubbies, Thomas the Tank Engine, as well as the animated eco-warriors, MeteoHeroes, an award-winning animated family series based on a series of books about a group of six pint-sized superheroes, each of whom represents a different continent and a different natural element, working in tandem to fight Climate Change disasters. The fearless heroes go to battle to save our planet, using their unique superhuman abilities to control weather phenomena. MeteoHeroes is the only children’s series dedicated entirely to climate anxiety and environmental issues and is already in 182 countries and in two dozen languages.
In an unprecedented partnership with Adventure 2 Learning and itsy bitsy Entertainment, MeteoHeroes has been approved in every state in the country to reach 15 million school children in 30,000-plus schools across the country this fall through in-school broadcasts with age-graded curriculums for children aged 4-10. MeteoHeroes plans to go to a full series on PBS stations across the country later in the year as part of the largest most comprehensive climate education initiative in the world being spearheaded by Viselman and a team of child experts.
MeteoHeroes have a forest page of their own on the Tree-Nation website in which fans and supporters of the superheroes can join them in their mission to protect Planet Earth, download a MeteoHeroes videogame, get updates, monitor the impact of the forest, find out what kinds of trees have been planted and help the heroes to plant trees all over the world in defense of the environment. Access the page at: https://tree-nation.com/profile/MeteoHeroes. The National Forest Foundation does not offer guided tours of the forest because many places can be dangerous due to the presence of debris as a result of the wildfire. In addition, the newly planted seedlings are quite fragile, so any visitors could cause damage to the new trees. The project manager, however, invites the community to virtually visit the location via the coordinates on Google Maps at: 34°41’30”N 118°33’00”W near Lake Hughes. Or go to a map on the Tree-Nation website at: https://tree-nation.com/projects/wildfire-recovery-in-california/updates.
Viselman had hoped MeteoHeroes (seen in most of the territories associated with the Paris Climate Accords), would spur some kind of change or at the very least, help alleviate children’s Climate Anxiety.
“MeteoHeroes uses humor and adventure to help children feel hopeful and to deal with their increasing and impending Climate Anxiety,” says Viselman. “Without a doubt this is the most important and imperative series I have ever worked on. Our kids are freaking out! Let me say that again… Our kids are freaking out! Whether or not you personally believe in Climate Change is not the issue — the fact is that our children are gravely concerned about it. In fact tens upon tens of millions of children across the globe are ‘worried’ to ‘extremely worried’ about the planet. WE NEED TO GIVE THESE CHILDREN HOPE!”
Viselman has some powerful and influential allies in his fight to help alleviate climate change. “Climate change is affecting us, but too many in our nation...don’t see the need for change,” says First Lady Jill Biden. “I believe that we are capable of building a better world for our kids. We need education and hope.”
