Book Nook: Mama, Sing My Song - A Sweet Melody of God’s Love for Me

Turning song into story, Amanda Siebert is a foster care advocate and the founder of  MamaSing My Song, a service providing personalized tunes to celebrate children. She is now providing parents with a love note to speak (or sing) over their children with the release of her debut children’s book, MamaSing My Song: A Sweet Melody of God’s Love for MeMamaSing My Song was written and recorded as a song that is a timeless, heartfelt keepsake for families. Intended for ages four to eight, MamaSing My Song: A Sweet Melody of God’s Love for Me is an affirming picture book that

  • celebrates the love between parent and child
  • provides kids the security and love they're seeking
  • highlights all that is good in our little ones

I had a chance to learn more in this interview.

Why did you write this book?

For the past 4 years, our company, Mama Sing My Song, has been creating personalized songs for children around the world to remind them how loved and treasured they are. In so many ways, this book is simply an extension of what we’ve already been doing. It’s a song for every child, reminding them of the wonderful person they were created to be and just how much they are loved!

Why is it important for kids to have books that reinforce the love adults have for them?

We all long for the security of knowing that we are loved– always and forever, no matter what. Books can be a useful tool to help parents reaffirm this message to their children again and again!

What are some other ways parents and caregivers can affirm the good they see in their children?

Growing up, my parents were quick to affirm the good they saw in us through both verbal affirmation and written words. My dad kept a “special book” where he wrote down the wonderful qualities he saw in us and the specific ways they were displayed. For example, if we showed an act of kindness towards a friend or if we demonstrated courage on the sports field, we would write those down in the book. We loved reading the stories written about us, and these words helped form our identities. “I’m brave! I’m kind! I can do hard things!” I now keep a “special book” for my own children.

As parents, we have the incredible privilege of helping our kids shape their identities– the things they believe about themselves– through the words we speak over them.

Look for the unique and wonderful qualities you see in your child, and then put it to words– whether written, spoken, or sung!

One of my favorite features of this book, “Mama, Sing My Song” is that there are dedication pages inside the cover for parents to fill with affirming words for their children. I hope these pages will give parents an opportunity to pause & think about their child’s wonderful qualities, and that these handwritten words of love will be treasured for years to come.
