Book Nook: The Side-by-Side Declaration of Independence

 Constitution day is coming up Saturday, and it's a great time to help kids really understand the meaning and context of one of our country's founding documents. I had a chance to review The Side-by-Side Declaration of Independence, which has original text of the Declaration on each left-hand page with help from a “plain English” translation on each right-hand page. 

Although this book is intended for kids, it honestly was interesting and educational to me as an adult. I didn't car so much about the bright illustrations and layout (although they do make the book more appealing and interesting, less dry and intimidating), but the historical explanations helped put things in context and the updated language helped make it easier to understand. The book also contains some fun facts, which are great for anyone who likes history trivia (or just wants to learn more).
