Tipping is a common practice to show appreciation for work or services received - but how much do consumers tip across the nation? Taskrabbit has the answer.
This summer, Taskrabbit conducted a national survey to learn more about American consumers who have hired independent contractors to help with everyday tasks - including attitudes towards tipping.
They measured this in two ways. First, they generated a “Tip Index,” which was a series of seven statements capturing a person’s attitudes toward tips. These statements were categorized as either having a positive attitude toward tips or a negative attitude toward tips.
The states that were the most tip-positive (scored highest on the Tip Index) were:
- Wyoming
- Vermont
- West Virginia
- Florida
- New Jersey
Second, they measured how much people usually tipped and how that differed by state. They found that residents in South Dakota, Indiana, and Missouri were the best tippers — these residents were the most likely to tip over 25% compared to residents in other states.
