Music Minute: Grant Gilbert - What's Stopping Us

River House Artists' rising Texas Country artist Grant Gilbert releases the relatable, feel-good song “What's Stopping Us,” available everywhere. When feelings of excitement and spontaneity spark after meeting someone new, Gilbert sees where the night leads with no expectations singing, “we ain't gotta go all in, fall in love / but what's stopping us.” Produced by award-winner Jonathan Singleton and penned by Gilbert, Jordan Walker and Erik Dylan, “What's Stopping Us'' serves as the latest installment of new music this summer from the emerging Texas talent.

“'What's Stopping Us' is about getting to know someone new and hanging on for the ride,” shares Gilbert. “Whether it will turn into something special or nothing comes from it, you won't know unless you try it, so why not give it a shot? I hope it's one people can sing along to, and maybe even fall in love to.”

After releasing the post-heartache hit “She Goes Home” in May, Gilbert racked up north of 2M streams across platforms, prompting him to follow up with the anthemic “God & Everybody” in July. The small-town Santo, Texas native has been “making a name for himself in the Texas country scene” (Whiskey Riff) after getting his start in music playing around his college town of Lubbock. Catching the attention of Texas legend Josh Abbott, Gilbert has since embarked on a world-class songwriting retreat with some of Texas' biggest hit makers, joining the likes of Riley Green, Parker McCollum, Whiskey Myers and more on tour.

Gilbert spent this summer touring across the South with Mike Ryan and mentor Abbott, with fall dates to be announced soon. The promising Texas up-and-comer continues to write and record new music to be released in the coming months. ABOUT GRANT GILBERT:
Texas-raised singer/songwriter Grant Gilbert is 'country music without the twang.' His musical journey started in high school when his brother booked him a show to play Fuzzy's Taco Shop in his hometown of Santo, Texas; population 315. Gilbert bought a sound system from Guitar Center the night before the gig to be able to play and learned the equipment on the fly to collect that first check.

Gilbert's ear was influenced early by his relatives playing the fiddle and family vacations planned around Turnpike Troubadours concerts. Gilbert began guitar lessons in the second grade but quit shortly after, ultimately deciding that if he was going to learn how to play, he was going to do it by himself. The self-taught musician kept his grassroots work ethic throughout high school, finding time to call restaurants for singing gigs while sitting in his car before Friday night football games. All while using his best raspy 'adult voice' in hopes they wouldn't realize he was underage.

Gilbert went off to study agricultural economics at Texas Tech in Lubbock, a staple town for Texas country music and began playing shows at the Blue Light, a rowdy club that became a proving ground for some of Gilbert's heroes: Josh Abbott, Wade Bowen and William Clark Green.

On his 21st birthday, Gilbert was even able to celebrate with artists Josh Abbott and William Clark Greene in the crowd - leading to an impromptu duet with Abbott, performing “Watching Airplanes” by Gary Allen. From there, Gilbert has played numerous shows with Abbott and embarked on a world-class songwriting retreat with some of the best in Texas country music and hasn't looked back since. With tour stops alongside Abbott, Mike Ryan and Kolby Cooper throughout 2022, Gilbert continues to ready new music to be released via River House Artists.
