World Wisdom: Cortina Leather

What is the environmental cost of producing leather? Is it ethical to use leather? Is leather considered sustainable?

The leather industry is one of many industries that brings about much conversation surrounding its ethics, its practices, its environmental impact and whether it is a material that is actually sustainable.

"As a channel, we always want to meet new people and showcase their innovations and activism to a wider audience. We always aim to get their perspectives and understand their views on topics and issues that affect all of us and the environment we live in. " says Sustainability Champions Founder, Daniel Hartz.

Sustainability Champions is proud to introduce Jack Prause, President of Cortina Leathers. Cortina Leathers started in 1903 and since then has become a market leader, with their leathers being made for clients in a range of markets globally from hospitality, workspaces, the automotive & aviation industries and residential spaces. With a large number of clients around the globe, you may have lounged on a chair, sofa or airplane seat that has been upholstered with leather made by Cortina Leathers!

On this week’s podcast, Daniel Hartz speaks with Jack Prause to discuss more widely the issues within the leather industry and explore the subject of whether or not leather is a sustainable textile.

To be able to better answer this question, Daniel wanted to speak with an industry leader and get their view, while also learning more about the industry itself.

In this episode, Jack discusses Cortina Leathers' environmental stewardship initiatives and about the certifications Cortina has received over the years from SCS Global Services, Leather Working Group and Future-Fit Business.
