Survey - Seniors and Inflation

PayingForSeniorCare.com recently surveyed 1,000 U.S. adults 55 and over to find out how seniors have been feeling about inflation. We also analyzed proprietary senior living cost data to discover whether inflation disproportionately affects seniors living at home.

Our results show that nearly 1 in 4 seniors living at home have been forced to make drastic changes to their lifestyle, while those in senior living have mostly avoided severe inflation. Since 2019, the rate of general inflation is 4x the rate of assisted living inflation (15.6% vs. 3.7%).

Key findings include:
  • 3 in 4 seniors said they’ve had to adjust their lifestyles due to inflation; 22% cite drastic changes
  • 4 in 10 seniors are worried they won’t be able to afford food and groceries in the future due to inflation
  • 1 in 10 say they’ve had to skip meals to make ends meet
  • 23% are concerned they may have to skip necessary medical procedures
  • 1 in 10 also say that they’ve delayed needed medical procedures to save money
  • Hawaii, North Dakota, and Montana have the highest rates of senior living inflation
  • South Dakota, West Virginia, and Louisiana have the lowest rates of senior living inflation
