Book Nook - A Good Mom's Guide to Making Bad Choices

Uncensored, unapologetic, empathetic, and no-holds-barredA GOOD MOM'S GUIDE TO MAKING BAD CHOICES by Jamilah Mapp and Erica Dickerson, the creators of the beloved podcast Good Mom's Bad Choices gives us permission to recognize that moms are vibrant, sexual creative beings with needs and desires that deserve to be acknowledged and respected. Part memoir, part guide, and part manifesto this book shares Erica’s and Milah’s journeys as single mothers raising children, being in (and falling out of) relationships, making mom friends, and ultimately, finding themselves as they learned to redefine motherhood on their own terms. With refreshing honesty and down to earth humor, they share the wisdom and tools we can use to recognize our past traumas, find a way to healing, and break free from unrealistic expectations of what it means to be a good parent.

Social media often presents images of motherhood that are perfect, pleasant, and pretty - "good" moms. While there are some moms who show their lives with refreshing honesty, most of us curate our posts, and the information we share with others, to portray a certain image. This book shatters that. There are definitely people who would look at these stories and see them as examples of bad mothers - and while the book definitely portrays choices I wouldn't make, it does radically change the way "good" mothers can be defined.

The book is definitely NSFW. It reads as memoir, sharing anecdotes about their own lives; guide, encouraging other moms; and manifesto, radically redefining "good" motherhood. Along the way, there are tools to help deal with trauma and break free from unrealistic expectations.

JAMILAH MAPP & ERICA DICKERSON are the hosts of the Good Moms Bad Choices podcast. Their wildly successful weekly show is ranked in the top 1 percent of podcasts in the world.
