I recently had a chance to see a copy of the book I Am Temple Grandin, from the Ordinary People Change the World series. Brad Meltzer started this nonfiction picture book series to give his own children better heroes to look up to, rather than who they were seeing on TV or social media. It's been such a popular resource that Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum, Emmy-nominated TV series, is based on the OPCTW series!
Although my kids are a little old for the target market of this book, it was still interesting to check out. My older daughter is autistic, and while we all knew who Temple Grandin is, the book gave us some extra insight into her life, especially her life as a child. For kids (and adults) of all ages, being able to see something in a famous figure that resonates with their own lives can be etremely beneficial, whether that's a personal experience, a physical or mental trait, or an interest or activity.
I'd definitely encourage this series to anyone interested in learning more about ordinary people who became heroes, in a kid-friendly, engaging way!
