Fun Freetime: Hosting Party Survey

Pinching pennies? Seems like everything costs more these days and some things are just no longer in the budget.

With graduation parties, summer barbeques and Memorial Day Weekend right around the corner, I was recently sent you this report about the state of the American Party in 2023 and not shockingly it isn’t great. According to the survey, nearly 1 in 4 Americans are going to fewer parties in 2023 due to cost. And nearly half of Americans don’t like throwing parties because they’re too expensive.

  • Americans spend an average of $259 when hosting parties
  • Hosts will buy less food, alcohol and decorations, throw more potlucks and invite fewer guests due to inflation

Even though higher prices are making parties more expensive, 3 in 5 feel it’s rude for hosts to ask guests to pay for food and drinks!. Boomers especially feel this way (with 76% believing it's a party faux pa), while Gen Z is the most apt to help out (only 40% believe it’s a party foul).

Take a look at the study which has more on the tackiest party moves (hello leftovers and name tags) and whether or not hosts should accommodate dietary restrictions.
