Book Nook - A Very Dinosaur Birthday

Dinosaurs are big, and strong, and scary, and farty, So do you really want them coming to your birthday party?

From #1 New York Times Bestselling author of the How To Catch series, including How to Catch a Leprechaun and How to Catch the Tooth Fairy, comes an exploration into A Very Dinosaur Birthday [Tommy Nelson, an imprint of HarperCollins / June 20, 2023 / $12.99] by Adam Wallace

Children will be rolling in giggles as they watch dinosaurs gobble up cake and pizza, jump into the swimming pool and crash into all the presents. This book even includes fun ideas for parents and kids to host their own Very Dinosaur Birthday Party with themed invitations, decorations, snack ideas and activities.

You can learn more in this interview.

Why do you write? and what goals do you hope to achieve through your writing for this audience?

I want to write stories that lift kids up, make them feel amazing, make them laugh, make them talk about books and want to read more books. I want to do that with every story I write and every book I release.

Every book I write, whether it has a strong message, or is teaching how to draw, or is whatever it may be, will have humour in it. I believe that is the best way to connect, the best way to learn, and as Harpo Marx said (In Harpo Speaks, greatest book ever written), “I knew that if you got ‘em laughing, you had ’em.”

What have you learned from being a Children’s author?

One of the greatest things I have learned is that a) we have the power to decide if something is good or bad, that it is our perception and ideas that make it so. It’s very rarely the incident itself. And b) even when things are not going well at all, there is always a moment where they can turn around. It may not be easy, it may not be quick, but it can happen. Always keep the faith and hope that the pendulum will swing the other way.

Whose writing styles have influenced or inspired your own style as an author?

I grew up having Dr Seuss and Bill Peet and Roald Dahl read to me.
Rhyme, to me, has a magic to it. When it flows and moves you almost see the kids flowing and moving with it as they listen. They love guessing what word will come next, or they love the surprise of a well-timed rhyming punchline.

What’s one piece of advice you have for your readers?

It is amazing to have goals and dreams. I think about mine every single morning and night. But when we put massive expectations on how things HAVE TO turn out, or the EXACT end point they must have, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. Have the goals, but be flexible in how you get to them, and also be aware that they may change and move as time goes on.

What is the main message of your book?

Umm maybe don’t invite people to your party who will destroy your house maybe? Seriously though, I think it is to have fun. To play. To be able to see that in all the seriousness in the news, society, world, life in general, there is space for books that make people laugh, and especially make children laugh, which is the greatest sound in the universe. And also that with everything going on, it will turn. Not can. It may not be instantaneous, but it will turn.
