I recently had a chance to review a copy of Serendipity: A History of Accidental Culinary Discoveries. It was definitely an enjoyable book to read.
First of all, I love the word serendipity, and I love the concept, whether it's about food or something else. I also enjoy trivia and fun historical anecdotes - and I enjoy cooking and trying new foods. So I was definitely in the target market for this book.
The book included a few stories that I already knew, like the creation of the ice cream cone, but had many more that I didn't. Foods ranged from the more basic - Nutella and corn flakes - to more fancy - wines and cheeses. It's an interesting way to find out about the origin of many different foods, and to encourage discovery in the kitchen as well!
