Money Makers - Successful Career Survey

In today's competitive job market, employees often get categorized as A players or B players based on their performance and potential, shaping how organizations identify and reward top talent.

With high-performing A players being considered the major driving-force of business, B players are typically misconstrued as less valuable to company success, when in reality, they are competent, steady performers who consistently meet expectations while maintaining a work-life balance.

Are A players truly more impactful than their B player counterparts, or is this perception a product of motivational factors? What role does recognition play in motivating employees, and how does it impact their satisfaction in the workplace?

These questions and more are explored in Zety's new study. We surveyed over 1,000 employees to challenge common misconceptions and shed some light on the workplace dynamics of A and B players, their motivations, strengths, weaknesses, and job satisfaction.

Here are some of our key findings:
  • 8 in 10 participants believe that being an A or B player is a matter of motivation.
  • A considerable 55% of respondents think that A players' impact is overestimated.
  • 76% assert that B player employees are neglected, compared to A players.
  • The majority, 79% of employees, feel taken for granted by their manager.
  • An alarming 75% of participants are willing to sacrifice their romantic relationships or marriages for a successful career.
  • 72% would choose job satisfaction over job prestige.
  • Enjoying their job is the key motivational factor for 26% of respondents.
  • Surprisingly, only 38% take pride in their professional achievements.
  • For both A and B players, giving up easily and sensitivity to criticism are the top workplace weaknesses.
