Enriching Education: The Girlfriends (True Crime Podcast)

It’s not every day a senior policy advisor to a successful Washington, D.C. based health care consulting firm is selected to host a new, highly-ranked true crime podcast, but by doing so Healthsperien’s senior policy advisor Carole Fisher is sharing her personal story and hoping to shed light on the epidemic of domestic violence continuing to persist.

In the podcast, Fisher recounts a gripping story of dating an emotionally unstable ex-boyfriend who would be arrested years later for murder.  The Girlfriends collaborates with NO MORE, a global nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence.

Fisher was selected as host of The Girlfriends, produced by iHeartPodcasts and Novel and ranked #38 in most popular podcasts around the globe, due to her personal experience working on social impact issues at Healthsperien.  Launched earlier this year in the United Kingdom, The Girlfriends is done in collaboration with NO MORE, a global nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence.

“We have been so proud to partner with iHeartPodcasts and Novel on The Girlfriends podcast to raise awareness of domestic and dating violence and help survivors find the support they need. At NO MORE, we strongly believe that media and entertainment can play an important role in changing the culture that has allowed the epidemic of domestic violence to persist. We’re incredibly grateful to Carole Fisher for sharing her story and continuing to speak out to help fuel real and lasting change,” said NO MORE CEO Pamela Zaballa.

The podcast tells the true story of a group of women who formed a club to put a murderous ex-boyfriend behind bars. The story illuminates the ways women unite to protect each other when systems of justice fail them.

Unlike your typical true crime, The Girlfriends is not about the murderer, Bob. It’s about his wife Gail, and the other women who dated him that could have suffered the same fate. It’s about Gail’s sister Alayne, who never gave up the fight for justice. It's about the gratitude she felt when she learned that a sisterhood of women in Las Vegas and New York were on her side.

“We are thrilled Carole is using her talents to host this important podcast weaving together her years of public policy experience on social impact issues, while raising awareness of the domestic violence epidemic that is unfortunately too often being allowed to persist in our society,” said Andrew MacPherson and Ray Quintero, managing partners of Healthsperien, LLC. “Carole is a true professional who uses her immense talents to amplify the voices of domestic violence survivors in this top, globally ranked podcast.
