National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of vaccinations for people of all ages. This is especially timely as most children, teens and young adults around the country are returning to school during the late summer months.
Children through college-aged young adults require different vaccines based on school and extracurricular requirements. These can range from Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) to meningococcal vaccinations, and, of course, yearly flu shots.
Additionally, most adults are unaware of which vaccines are right for them at each stage of their lives. Adults need routine immunizations and boosters to help them avoid getting and spreading serious diseases that could result in poor health, missed work and medical bills.
Arranging schedules to remember when to get vaccines could be difficult. The leaders at Kroger Health, the healthcare division of The Kroger Co., the Kroger Family of Companies’ pharmacies and The Little Clinic want to remind local communities of the convenience of getting their vaccines, including the annual flu vaccine, during their weekly trip to their neighborhood store.
In response to the pandemic, pharmacies were consistently filling the need for vaccinations—giving two out of every three COVID-19 vaccines throughout the country. And community pharmacists have been noted among the most trusted healthcare providers by patients. This makes a Kroger Family of Companies’ pharmacy the perfect option for people to get preventive care services and protect their family going into this year’s flu season.
In this interview, parent influencer, Janelle Rohner and Kroger Health Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marc R. Watkins discuss the importance of getting vaccinated and how Kroger is providing customers and communities with an easy solution to help keep them and their families healthy. They talk about how vaccines are available at the customer’s convenience, offering a compelling solution to the challenge of ‘making time’ for flu and other vaccinations.
