Recently, MyElearningWorld released a new report showing that the average college student will spend $304.86 per month on groceries this year or $2,439 for two full semesters (about $360 more than two years ago).
On top of that, the average student will spend $397.80 eating out or $3,182.41 for two full semesters.
The report includes a map showing average grocery spend per state (feel free to use it!) along with other notable findings:
- The average cost per meal for college students this year will be $7.81
- The average meal plan is $4,500 for two semesters, or $6.25 per meal, which saves a little, but not a ton
- Students in Hawaii ($545.90), Alaska ($458.27), New York ($458.27), West Virginia ($391.96), and Mississippi ($387.22) will spend the most on groceries
- Students in New Hampshire ($103.02), Kansas ($195.39), Idaho ($219.07), Utah ($220.25), and Arkansas ($220.25) will spend the least
