In recent years, mommy makeovers have increasingly grown in popularity as a way for women to restore their personal confidence. Mommy makeover procedures can be customized to each other's desires and can include various surgical and nonsurgical procedures. With the buzz around these procedures, there are plenty of myths to debunk before deciding if this is right for you.
1. Myth: Mommy makeovers are only for moms.
Reality: The term "mommy makeover" may imply that these procedures are exclusively for mothers, but in reality, they are not limited to women who have given birth. Any individual who desires to rejuvenate their silhouette via a combination of procedures that usually involve breast and body surgery at once is undergoing a mommy makeover; many of these women are postpartum, but similarly, nulliparous women who have lost a lot of weight may undergo similar treatment.
2. Myth: It's a one-size-fits-all procedure.
Reality: Mommy makeovers are highly customizable and tailored to each patient's unique needs and goals. There is no fixed set of procedures that define a mommy makeover. Instead, the combination of surgeries or treatments depends on the patient's concerns, such as breast sagging, abdominal laxity, or excess fat in certain areas.
3. Myth: It's a substitute for weight loss and exercise.
Reality: Mommy makeovers are not intended as weight loss solutions or replacements for a healthy lifestyle. Patients should ideally be at or near their target weight before undergoing these procedures. They are meant to address specific cosmetic issues that often result from pregnancy or significant weight fluctuations and will yield maximal results when the client has achieved a sustainable weight and healthy version of themselves.
4. Myth: Recovery from a mommy makeover is quick and easy.
Reality: Recovery from a mommy makeover involves major surgery, which means it can be quite extensive and require a significant amount of downtime. Patients should be prepared for a period of healing rest and follow their surgeon's post-operative care instructions carefully.
5. Myth: All procedures can be done at once.
Reality: While combining multiple procedures in a mommy makeover can be efficient and cost-effective, not all patients are suitable candidates for undergoing extensive surgeries simultaneously. The surgeon will consider various factors, such as the patient's health, the extent of procedures needed, and the overall safety, before deciding on a suitable treatment plan.
6. Myth: Mommy makeovers always leave noticeable scars.
Reality: While all surgeries leave some degree of scarring, skilled plastic surgeons employ advanced techniques and can provide product recommendations to minimize scarring and make incisions in inconspicuous areas when possible. Over time, scars tend to fade and become less noticeable. Regardless, the improved shape trumps the downside of potential scars.
7. Myth: The results of a mommy makeover are permanent.
Reality: While mommy makeover procedures can provide long-lasting results, they are not immune to the effects of aging and lifestyle changes. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, is essential to preserve the results of a mommy makeover for years to come.
