Positivity is a popular part of American culture being that 1 in 4 Americans said they regularly weave positive phrases into conversation. And positivity isn’t confined to face-to-face banter because 56% also like to include these phrases in social media posts.
To find out which phrases your Gen Z kids are over, and others they really like, Preply surveyed Americans about the phenomenon of “good vibes” language.
Key findings:
Gen Z is in their positivity era, connecting most with the positive colloquialism “In my __ era,” likely inspired from Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.
Gen Z’s favorite positive lyric is Drake’s “started from the bottom now we’re here."
Gen Z prefers Bob Marley's phrase "every little thing is gonna be alright" for optimism.
Gen Z thinks "YOLO" is the most annoying colloquialism.
- Overall, half of American respondents feel more connected to people who quote positive phrases from music in conversation.
1 in 4 regularly weave positive phrases into their conversations
1 in 6 are “extremely likely” to use positive phrases as a source of encouragement for themselves and others.
