Enriching Education - Choose Kindness Project: National Bullying Prevention Month

More than one third of teens reported being bullied in the past year, according to The Choose Kindness Project Survey conducted by Ipsos, with significantly higher rates for some groups. The survey also found that bullying happens in different places but is most frequently reported at school. And, of those bullied, 65% say bullying has had an impact on their mental health and confidence, while nearly one in three parents do not feel they have the resources to deal with bullying issues.

Because of these alarming statistics The Choose Kindness Project developed first-of-its kind resources –The Parent Playbook and the companion Educator and Coach Toolkit – aimed at equipping adults with practical guidance for tackling bullying and supporting mental wellness among young individuals.

The Parent Playbooks detail proactive steps caring adults can take with their kids to address bullying, while helping to build a culture of kindness, empathy and understanding. The companion Educator and Coach Toolkit, contains educator-family communications tools, as well as a thoughtfully-curated selection of actionable resources, which is currently being distributed to 1,000 schools across the country as well as being available online.

In an era where bullying, isolation, and youth mental health challenges are on the rise, The Choose Kindness Project stands as a beacon of hope and support. The alliance, comprised of over 20 influential nonprofit organizations, is launching this unprecedented initiative to empower parents, educators, and coaches with the tools they need to address bullying and cultivate a culture of kindness, empathy, and inclusion among youth.

The Choose Kindness Project collaborated with top experts, including Dr. Yalda T. Uhls of The Center for Scholars & Storytellers at UCLA, to develop Parent Playbooks and an Educator and Coach Toolkit. Dr. Uhls will be available during this tour to discuss the projects’ innovative approach and how it has the potential to transform how parents, educators, and coaches engage with the important issues of bullying prevention and youth mental wellness. And, how the toolkits will help caring adults navigate these challenging conversations and guide young individuals towards a future defined by empathy, inclusion, and emotional well-being.
