Fun Freetime - Best cities to live for gamers in 2023

At Privacy Journal conducted an extensive study to determine the best and worst U.S. cities for gamers: https://www.privacyjournal.net/top-gaming-cities/.

They examined 17 key factors in the 100 largest cities, ranging from quality of life and internet infrastructure to gaming community engagement, accessibility to video game stores, educational opportunities, and career prospects.

Here's a glimpse of some of the intriguing findings:

  • New York City, Raleigh, Tampa, Los Angeles, and Orlando have claimed the top spots as the ultimate destinations for gamers, offering a thriving gaming scene. Conversely, cities like Memphis, Toledo, Laredo, Anchorage, and Stockton present more challenging prospects for gamers.
  • New York City takes the top spot, outperforming several California cities, thanks to its unique retro gaming shops, conventions, meet-ups, job opportunities, and thriving gamer community.
  • Texas emerges as a gaming powerhouse, with cities like Frisco, Austin, and Plano in the top 10. Texas maintains a strong gaming presence, offering diverse opportunities for gamers.
  • The best internet connection for online gaming can be found in Plano, Texas, followed by Raleigh, Kansas City, Austin, and Jersey City.
  • Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Austin, and Irvine emerge as top choices for gamers seeking a career in the video game industry. These cities offer a combination of ample job opportunities, robust university programs related to gaming, and a significant number of video game companies.

In the gaming career context, Drew Davidson, a Carnegie Mellon University professor, offered exclusive advice for our study: 'Do more than just play games; it's what you do outside of games that you can then bring into the games, enabling you to create fresh and distinctive gaming experiences.'
