Book Nook - Our Divine Mischief

I love books that utilize folklore from cultures around the world. So does my daughter. One of the latest we got the chance to review is Our Divine Mischief. The book tells the story in three voices - the heroine, the outcast, and the genie-like dog. The journey runs from a humble island village to the royal court and explores themes of identity, belonging, and love (but in a rather unexpected way).

The book's cover was beautifully appropriate, and it was a lovely fantasy tale. It was a little different from typical fantasy novels, but very enjoyable to read. It had familiar themes like quests and righting wrongs, but also unfamiliar ones (and the perspective of the dog was a unique viewpoint). Once I started it, I couldn't put it down, and my teenage daughter really enjoyed it as well.
