Our nation's mental health is struggling and adults aren’t the only ones impacted. Research shows a crisis in kids' mental well-being as well. It’s no surprise as children experience the same cultural turbulence, including divisive social views, changing laws, social injustices, civil rights issues, political polarization, and national disasters.
“One of the simplest tools to help children with mental health is teaching them gratitude. That’s why this years’ National Thank You Letter Day might be the most important one yet!” says Carew Papritz, a social activist and educational thought leader, who created the yearly celebration to teach children—and remind adults—about the personal importance of paying gratitude forward in their daily lives. This event has grown in popularity and received national acclaim for its lessons of kindness and compassion, including a world record for the LARGEST handwritten thank you letter in the world!
“It’s more than a simple act of writing a letter of thanks to someone…it’s one small step to repairing the mental health of our nation…”says Paprtiz who notes, the power of gratitude is significant. Studies show that people who are more grateful and kind are happier, less depressed, less stressed and more satisfied with their lives and social relationships.
“Amid today's increasing complexities, teaching children gratitude fosters empathy, resilience, and a positive outlook, crucial for navigating change with appreciation and understanding,” says Carew Papritz, who is also the award-winning author of The Legacy Letters, a book with life lessons for all generations.
Among the numerous positives that can be taken from this day of gratitude, there’s also an opportunity to teach critical literacy and communication skills to the kids and adults who participate.
Spread the word about this FREE, altruistic, and educational effort, which will be celebrated across the country on November 14.
