What are some of the things involved in QA for game development?

• QA is responsible for planning tests, risk analysis, smoke tests, exploratory tests, bug triage, regression tests, testing every possible combination…and then analyzing the test results and filing bugs with reproduction steps.

How can AI help make the process faster and more accurate?

• AI bots’ exploratory algorithms can save time by exploring levels at scale and flagging issues as they go. AI bots can test thoroughly without the need for humans to play games over and over again to find issues or bugs in the game. 

What are some ways that a human touch is still necessary in the process?

• QA requires a particular type of person. It requires someone who can think holistically about the product to assess risks and use creative thinking to uncover issues. An AI bot can’t tell you if your game is fun or if a bug will impact a different area of the product. AI bots will not remove the need for human testers, but they are tools for the QA tester’s toolbelt.
